2003 GPASC Specialty Show

The trophies are all ready...

It was a great show when the GPASC put on its 23rd ANNUAL SPECIALTY and SWEEPSTAKES Friday January 24, 2003. It was held at the National Orange Show Events Center in San Bernardino, California.

The dogs were spectacular. Mrs. Michele Mulligan judged the 17 entries in Puppy and Veteran Sweepstakes and Junior Showmanship. Mr. John Ramirez then judged the 47 entries in the main event, which comprised 14 dogs and 16 bitches in the regular classes, 6 veterans, and the 11 champions entered in Best of Breed.

The show included a parade of Rescue Dogs that was really quite emotional. The announcer gave us the background of each dog, and seeing them with their new owners made it clear they were all wonderful success stories. Each of the participants got a big blue and white rosette ribbon with their dog's name on it, and the show photographer took suitable-for-framing pictures to commemorate the event.

After the dust settled, the club laid out the buffet dinner. For just $5, there was plenty of pasta with marinara sauce, breadsticks, salad, and chocolate cake. A real hit were the crock-pots full of delicious meatballs to go with the pasta. Of course, what would a pasta dinner be without a little wine? There was even enough left over for the Duckers to put out the same spread as the main course for the "potluck" the club hosted on Saturday night. (By the way, the $5 donation went 100% to help pay the expenses for Dudley, a Rescue dog who had required major medical expenditures.)

After everyone had eaten, and were enjoying a little more wine and good company, the winning ticket for the 50/50 raffle was drawn. Ken Griffith was the winner, splitting the $215 pot with Rescue.

Needless to say (but worth repeating), a good time was had by all. If you've not been to one of the Specialties before, come out next year to enjoy the socialization with all these Pyrs and their people.
